Poser Purchase Installer (PoPI)

POPIMENU

PoPI is a utility designed to help PC poser users manage the installation of their valuable industry standard Poser purchases (and freebies) into their Poser runtimes.  Essentially, it reads the vendor standard Poser zip format (i.e. those designed to be installed by unzipping into the runtime area) and installs it into your selected runtime.  The program can un-install as well as install (provided you have the original zip) as well as letting the user specify different runtime directories - very handy for testing!  PoPI is completely free, but you must have the vb6 runtime libraries installed - instructions on how to get these are included in the PDF documentation.

Access Password Recovery

UPDATED - SEE BELOW!

This one is for VB developers! More and more people are using VB and Access databases. Someone, somewhere, decides to make the data their project is using more secure, so they put a password on the database, and go and have a cup of coffee…. Six months later, they try to use the DB for the first time, and realise that they can't remember the password (the IT staff laugh happily at the user's misfortune, until the ab-user decides to tell the MD that although he's lost the password, the IT staff WILL get it back for him (who, us?)…

The Access Password Recovery utililty can reveal passwords belonging to all versions of Microsoft Access. Simply enter in the path of the DB, or use the […] button to find it, and then press the [Reveal Passwords] button. Although I've tested this on all version of Access, there are occasions where the password is not revealed - this is usually down to encryption. If this happens, you may have to buy one of the better utilities around for this sort of thing.

Discalimer:- The author would like to point out that this utility is designed to help DB authors regain forgotten passwords. It is NOT a password cracker, and should not be used as such. The author denies any claim of liability for any damage the use of this program could do to your system, and any systems you run the utility on.

MS Access Password Recovery - Vers. 1.1 - Allows Cut and Paste of recovered passwords.

RSETBIOS

A quick little program which invalidates the BIOS on a PC, therefore resetting any secutiry passwords.

WARNING! - This program may stop your PC from working - only use as a last resort, as I assume no responsibility for any damage that may be caused by the use of this program!

RegBack

When Windows 98 was released, one of it's major selling points was it's registry backup. No longer did you have to worry if a program corrupted your registry, Windows fixed it for you! SCANREGW would back it up, and SCANREG would recover the registry if required, all safely hidden away from the user…

Whilst SCANREG & SCANREGW do work, they rely on two things. The first is a good working registry, the second is perfect memory modules. If either is suspect, SCANREG can have problems. The newsgroups are full of people who have their machines go into the infamous "registry fixing loop" (where Windows cannot repair the registry, and has corrupted backup registries). The only solution is to re-install.

Regback was created to fill the gap in Microsoft's Registry Backup stategy. Regback is a DOS executable, which can backup the 4 main files (system.ini, system.dat, win.ini & user.dat) which comprise the Registry. The files can then be recovered later if SCANREG is unable to recover from it's backups. It can optionally compress the four files into 1 single backup zip.

Of course, you don't need to have Windows 98. Regback can be used to secure any versions of Windows 9x registry files, and has been successfully tested with vanilla 95 & OEMSR2.

RegBack for NT

Well, it had to happen! If you've ever tried, you'll know that the NT registry is that much harder to deal with. However, Microsoft (in their wisdom) delivered unto us, the ideal tool to backup the NT registry... REGBACK!

Er, well they tried. Microsoft's Regback (available as part of the NT Resource Kit) is not bad, but it doesn't like trying to backup open registry hives, simply displaying a message to the effect "run me again with these parameters, and I'll do want you REALLY want me to do".

Enter RegbackNT. This is a simple 32bit program that runs Regback automatically for you, as many times as nessesary, to make sure all your registry hives are backed up. RegbackNT is designed to be run by an automated script, or on the command line.

Fatal Fury 3 Patch

Let me tell you a story.  My youngest boy loves beat-em ups.  He wanted to buy the Mortal Kombat trilogy with his pocket, but as usually happens, when you want something, you just can't find it.  After looking through the local PC World, he chose a 2in1 package from Midas which had Fatal Fury 3...

After getting home, I installed the game, and tried to run it, only to be displayed an error saying "This game requires a Pentium Processor".

Now, I've had this problem before.  Both my main PC, and the Children's PC have Cyrix M1 Processors, which are pentium compatible, but are notorious for failing pentium compliance checks.  I tried looking on the web for a patch which would solve the problem, but was unable to find one.  I therefore decided to patch the program myself, no small feat as I'd never done anything like this before...

Eventually, I found the errant code, and patched the program.  It works fine now, and my kids are happy.  If you're in the same predicament, you can download the patched program here.

Fatal Fury Patch Instructions

Copy the contents of your FF3 CD to a directory on your hard drive (about 80Mbs worth).  Copy the original FF3.exe to another name as a backup (just in case!).  Extract the executable from the zip archive into the directory (overwriting the orginal FF3.exe), and run!

Disclaimer:
The above patch is intended for use with a purchased copy of Fatal Fury 3, and the only check disabled is the Pentium Processor checking code.  You still require the CD to be loaded for the patch to work.  I accept no liability for any illegal use of this patch, or damage caused by it's use.
